Bucs' roster moves make room for Vogelsong

To make room for Ryan Vogelsong on the 25- and 40-man rosters, the Pirates unconditionally released right-hander Wilfredo Boscan and sent Max Moroff down to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Max Anthony Moroff...Is a 2012 graduate of Trinity Prep School in Winter Park, FL...Went 80-for-80 in stolen base attempts during his high school career...Was an All-District Central Florida firstteam selection as a senior after hitting .408 with five home runs, 23 RBI and a .594 on-base percentage...Produced a .458 average, four homers and 19 stolen bases as a junior...Commited to the University of Central Florida prior to signing with Pittsburgh...Signed by Pirates scout Nick Presto.

2016

Spent all but one week of the season with Triple-A Indianapolis, where he led the International League in walks - the next highest total was 66...Drew multiple walks in a game 23 times, including a pair of three-walk efforts...Tied for third in the league in games, three shy of his career-high of 136 in 2015...Reached base safely in 23 consecutive games from 6/12 to 7/5, the ninth-longest streak in the league in 2016 (batted .297 with a .465 OBP over that span)...Was recalled by Pittsburgh on 7/31 and made his Major League debut that afternoon in Milwaukee; struck out as a pinch hitter against lefty Will Smith...Also struck out in a pinch-hitting role on 8/3 at Atlanta...Was optioned back to Indianapolis on 8/4...Made 61 appearances (60 starts) at second base, 43 appearances (37 starts) at third base and 20 appearances (17 starts) at shortstop while playing with Indianapolis.
